Princess Margaret and Captain Peter Townsend Papers Released

According to the BBC News< the National Archives has released documents pertaining to the romance that Princess Margaret had with Group Captain Peter Townsend. The papers show a more sympathetic government response than many believed at the time. Princess Margaret did not marry Townsend. She married Anthony Armstrong Jones (Earl of Snowdon) three years later. They had two children, and divorced in 1978. Princess Margaret died in 2002.
