Day of Romance

Sunday February 1, 2004
St. Laurence Parish, near Houston, Texas, has been having a "Day of Romance" for seventeen years near or on Valentine's Day. It is for married couples and is designed to help them renew and strengthen their marriages. An opportunity to renew their marriage vows is offered at the 6:00 P.M. Mass. Pre-registration is required. Other churches may want to plan similar days for the married members of their communities.

"It is a day in which couples come into an environment that looks very much like a wedding reception with live music, and lots of food. Three couples: a newly wed, a couple in the middle of child rearing, and an empty nester present how they live out their marriage sacrament, sharing both triumphs and tragedies. It is a day with much laughter and a few tears. Couples have a chance to talk to each other after each of the talks. At the end of the day we have an examination of conscience for the couples and a renewal of vows followed by champagne and wedding cake. It is an extraordinary day to say the least. We have couples approach us throughout the year, from throughout the community, to share with us how the day impacted their lives. It is open to the community at large and well attended."
