Cease and Desist or ?

Wednesday February 18, 2004
Judge James Warren, in San Francisco, declined to immediately stop the same-sex marriages being conducted at City Hall. He did though tell city officials to "cease and desist". If they don't, a March 29th court date has been set to explain why they haven't.

At the same time, Judge Ronald Evans Quidachay, also of San Francisco, refused to hear the case against the issuance of the marriage licenses because of a problem with the legal documents. The hearing has been rescheduled for Friday.

Opponents of same-sex marriage are appealing the issue to the California Appeals Court.

As of Tuesday, February 17, 2004, 2,636 licenses were issued to same-sex couples. Mayor Gavin Newsom has said that the weddings could continue.
