Same-Sex Marriages Invalidated in New Mexico
Saturday February 21, 2004
The New Mexico attorney general acted quickly, and with the help of the Sandoval County Sheriff, John Paul Trujillo, blocked about 30 same-sex couples from receiving marriage licenses at the Bernalillo courthouse. The 66 same-sex marriage licenses that were obtained previously in the day were declared invalid by the attorney general.
County Clerk Victoria Dunlap granted the gay couples marriage licenses after consulting with Sandoval County Attorney David Mathews.
