Music Through Mattie's Heartsongs

The Country Music Guide has a review of the CD that has songs based on the poems of Mattie J.T. Stepanek. Mattie, 13, who was the Muscular Dystrophy Association's National Goodwill Ambassador for 2002-2004, passed away in the afternoon on June 22, 2004. Mattie's poems were published in five best-selling books. His death was caused by complications of mitochondrial myopathy, the metabolic muscle disease that had affected him since birth. Mattie's 3 older siblings died from the same condition, and his mother also has the disease. His parents divorced.
