Nearly 4,000 Same-Sex Marriages Voided in California

CNN.com reports that the California Supreme Court ruled on August 12, 2004, that the Mayor Newsom of San Francisco oversteped his authority by issuing same-sex couples marriage licenses since the state law defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.Missouri: Voters endorsed in August, 2004, a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. States with similar constitutional amendments include Alaska, Hawaii, Nebraska, and Nevada. States that will be voting on the same issue include Louisiana on September 18; Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Utah on November 2; Michigan, North Dakota, and Ohio have pending initiatives.
