New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey Admits to Extramartial Homosexual Affair, Resigns

Friday August 13, 2004
With his wife and parents standing beside him, Governor Jim McGreevey announced that he was gay, that he had a consensual homosexual adulterous affair, and was resigning effective November 15, 2004.

He stated that what he did was wrong, foolish, and inexcusable and asked for forgiveness from his wife, Dina.

It is believed that Golan Cipel, an Israeli citizen once appointed by McGreevey as New Jersey's homeland security aide was threatening McGreevey with a sexual harassment lawsuit.

Although some are feeling sympathy for McGreevey for having to lie throughout his life, very little has been mentioned about the sense of betrayal, pain, shock, shame, and confusion that his wife, Dina, must be feeling as she copes with having her life turned upside down.
