Would You Get Married on 9/11?

Tuesday August 17, 2004
According to an article in the Toronto Star couples do not want to get married on September 11th.

An example of a couple who have set their wedding date for 9/11 is Lisa Melnychuk and Chris Barnett. Their original June wedding was postponed due to Chris' dad being injured in an automobile accident in late April. In order to save the deposits they had made, the wedding vendors gave the couple two choices for a 2004 wedding: September 11 or November 13. They chose the September date because they had concerns about bad weather for guests driving in for their wedding. However, they are getting a lot of negative comments about this decision. Their decision to get married on September 11th sounds like a reasonable one to me.

I think it’s fine, and people should lay off. It’s not as if they picked that date deliberately. Tragedies have occurred every day of the year. Eventually dates “lose their charge” (not their meaning). Folks should cut ‘em some slack.
