Queen Camilla?

It has been confirmed by the Constitutional Affairs Minister Christopher Leslie that when the Prince of Wales becomes King, Camilla Parker Bowles would automatically become Queen. In order for Camilla to not become queen, British law would have to be changed. Leslie has stated that the future marriage will not a "morganatic" marriage.

There are two reasons why many believe the marriage between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles cannot be considered to be "morganatic".

  • First, historically, in the United Kingdom, there have been no provisions for morganatic marriage in British law.

  • Second, the decision to not give Camilla the title of Queen is based more on her marital status of being divorced and on public opinion than on her social status.
