Forced Marriage Issue in the UK

Monday March 28, 2005
The BBC has reported about the issue of forced marriages in the U.K.

With so-called "honour killings", assault, abduction, domestic violence, and rape being associated with forced marriages, government officials in the U.K. have proposed legislation to make forced marriages illegal. Although an under reported problem, since 2000 a special unit of the Foreign office has dealt with nearly 1,000 cases of forced marriage.

If you are fearful of being forced into a marriage, you can get help in the U.K. by calling 020 7008 0230, 020 7008 0135, or 020 7008 8706. All calls are handled with confidentiality.
