Forced Marriages Banned in Saudia Arabia

BBC News reports that Saudia Arabia's top religous authority, Grand mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh, has banned forced marriage stating it is not permissible under Islamic law.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz said: "Forcing a woman to marry someone she does not want and preventing her from wedding that whom she chooses... is not permissible." He also stated that fathers who coerce their daughters into forced marriages should be jailed.
