No Marriages in the Near Future for Catholic Priests

According to an AP report by Nicole Winfield in the San Francisco Gate, Catholic bishops attending the three-week Synod of Bishops reaffirmed the celibacy and no marriage requirements for priests. The vote was behind closed doors.

For many years of the Catholic church's history, celibacy was considered optional. The Church has adopted celibacy as a matter of discipline, not as a matter of doctrine.
