Six Weeks Traveling Together in a Car

The Stritof's Serendipitous Sojourn -- Side by Side, From Shore to Shore is about to begin.
Bob and I have taken road trips together that lasted around 2 weeks. This cross-country road trip will take approximately 6 weeks with no hotel reservations made. It's a take it day-by-day type of trip.
We're both a bit concerned about having some personal space and alone time on the trip.
Some decisions we've disagreed on while planning this trip to avoid freeways and to enjoy being off the beaten path include getting Bob a new suitcase, taking our cat with us or not, and whether or not to rotate the tires before the scheduled time.
That's not too bad considering the number of decisions that we've been making concerning this trip!
We compromised on the car by having some basic maintenance performed before we leave, but waiting on the tire rotation until we're on the road. Bob is using his terrible looking suitcase that he likes until he finds one that appeals to him just as much.
That qualilty of his of wanting to keep old things around is actually rather reassuring as we approach our 43rd anniversary together!
We've made the decision to let Gypsy, our nearly 19-year old cat stay home. She'll have friends of ours stopping in to check on her and give her some love while we are away. That was Bob's choice all along, but I worried about her being home alone.
Hearing comments from our grown kids, numerous friends, and Franny Syufy, the Cats Guide here at About.com, I was very much in the minority. Now that the decision has been made, we're about ready to hit the road.
We will try and blog on a frequent basis so you can find out how lost we get, if we have strangled one another, or if this is truly a dream trip for the two of us!
