Six Weeks Traveling Together in a Car - Day 1

Wednesday April 5, 2006
Reporting in from Grants Pass, Oregon --

Trying to get the car packed this morning was a challenge and didn't go well. We didn't pack the kitchen sink, but it seems like it. My expectation of being able to find what I want easily in the car has quickly evaporated.

After a few minutes of being irritated with one another, we realized our ADD personalities were clashing. Many years ago, a situation like this could have ruined the whole trip. Thank heavens we have learned from our mistakes.

One of the expectations that we both had on this trip was to be on the road by nine in the morning, and to stop around three in the afternoon. Day one started out well in meeting this expectation. We were on the road at 8:41 a.m. How we managed to do that is still beyond me.

Our first day to travel has been a bright sunny one. We said goodbye to Gypsy even though she can't hear us. I'm always talking to her anyway. She's a smart cat. She understands.

We did get a laugh when we both were startled by a loud honking sound. I looked to see who was honking at us and Bob checked to make sure that he wasn't hitting the horn accidentally. A final very loud honk helped us realize that the noise was from a train passing us.

Do you think we can survive in the big cities on this trip?
