Six Weeks Traveling Together in a Car -- Finding Alone Time and Space

Thursday May 4, 2006
After 30 days together on the road, we've figured out how to handle the possible need for private space now and then.

Remember that it is okay and natural to want some alone time.

  • Make use of fitness/activity rooms at hotels.

  • Take a walk around the hotel grounds. If bad weather, you can always walk up and down the hallways.

  • Take a long shower or bath.

  • At rest areas, walk around the grounds alone.

  • Sit in the hotel lobby or garden area and read a book or call a friend or family member to chat.

  • Some hotels provide wi-fi access in the lobby or on a patio, etc. You can use your laptop there.

  • If a hotel provides a free breakfast, get up a bit early, and eat alone.

  • Stay up later than your mate, or get up earlier.
