Six Weeks Traveling Together in a Car -- Day 31
If you are wondering why we are in New York State and not in Canada as planned -- to quote Steinbeck who quoted Robert Burns, "the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry."
We cancelled our trip home through Canada when we learned that Bob's younger brother, Jim, died yesterday evening. Jim died following surgery for an aortic aneurysm.
In order to be with Bob's family we are doing what we said we would not do -- driving ten hours a day on freeways. We truly dislike not being able to explore, take pictures, stroll through small towns, etc., but family does come first.
Today was a day for me to listen without giving feedback to Bob as he expressed his feelings, his thoughts, and his memories of Jim.
