Study Reports Cohabiting Couples at Greater Risk for Divorce

Wednesday June 14, 2006
Although the findings are not new, a new study just released by David Olson and Peter Larson states that "Cohabiting couples have a significantly higher risk for divorce than non-cohabiting couples."

The study used a sampling of couples who had participated in the PREPARE/ENRICH program which is administered by Life Innovations.

The study also points out that "cohabiting couples can improve their type of couple relationship and, thereby, increase their chances of a successful marriage" by receiving premarital education. This supports findings by other researchers.

David H. Olson, Ph.D. is a Professor Emeritus, Family Social Science, University of Minnesota and President of Life Innovations. Peter J. Larson, Ph.D. is Vice President of Life Innovations, Inc.
