Many Asian American couples, as well as couples in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and South Korea are getting married in 2006 because they believe they will have double happiness by being wed in the Year of the Dog.

The Year of the Dog has two springs in the lunar year. According to a telephone interview with Kang Pan-seok, ice-director of the Korean Fortune Tellers' Association, "Having two springs in a year creates prosperous energy and means it is a good time to get married. ... Couples getting married in that period can have a long and happy life together."

Kurty Wong, a San Francisco wedding photographer, said in an interview with the SFGate.com, "Although it's nice to follow the Chinese tradition as part of the culture, it really is the love and compatibility that make a marriage last."
