Throughout our marriage Bob has made sure that I have flowers around me. Often times it is a single bloom that I find in a vase by my chair or sitting near our kitchen window. Now a research study has validated what he instinctively knew -- I'm less grumpy when I see flowers in the morning!
According to researchers at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital, individuals who look at flowers first thing in the morning "reported being happier and more energetic ... The final study results demonstrate that flowers impact people emotionally at home, causing them to feel less anxious and more compassionate. They even reported a boost of energy that lasted through their day." Lead researcher of The Home Ecology of Flowers Study, Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D.: "Interestingly, when we placed a small bouquet of flowers into their morning routines, people perked up." The best room to place the flowers? The kitchen.
