Home on the Road Flashback
As I read the free newspaper from the hotel this morning, I noticed an article by Craig Wilson, "The road is home for family traveling USA in their RV." Bob and I talked about how the article brought back memories of our decision in 1990 to travel around the USA in our RV, looking for the perfect place to live.
We didn't have much in savings and we didn't have any jobs lined up but we had faith in one another and in our abilities. We put our belongings in an airplane hangar loaned to us by friends. We had two kids aged 8 and 11, a freaked out cat, a large dog, and an old Toyota we towed behind the RV.
Seventeen states later, we settled in Skagit County in Washington State. To handle the stress of living on the road and my intense dislike of RV travel, we spent time each day talking about the two of us -- not just the trip, our kids, or finances. The greatest gift of that road trip experience is the good memories our kids have of that time. They saw it as a prolonged vacation!
