I left the breakfast area of the hotel earlier than Bob so I could finish up some paperwork I wanted to get done before we started driving. I thought he was taking longer than normal to finish up his coffee, but when he returned to our room he told me that he had been recognized by one of our readers. Chatting with the couple, he discovered that they were a military couple stationed in El Paso, Texas. They were parents to three young children and he had been deployed to Afghanistan with the Army twice. We owe couples like this so much, and I'm glad Bob thanked them for their service to our country.
Later in the day we stopped at a rest area. Bob wasn't in as much of a hurry as I was to get to the restrooms and stopped to talk to an elderly couple who were holding hands and walking slowly. The husband was ninety-two years old and told Bob they had been married for twenty-five years. His first marriage had lasted thirty-five years. As we were leaving, I noticed the couple walking among the flower gardens -- still holding hands. It was so nice to see.
