I'm not too sure how I came across the San Francisco 1906 Earthquake Marriage Project web site, but it is a fascinating look at the reasons couples quickly got married after the 1906 disaster. The site also has information about the impact of Hurricane Hugo in 1989 on marriages and divorces.
