Whether it happens when a couple has been married three years, five years, seven years, twelve years, or fifty years, the crisis in a marriage due to a wandering spouse is often referred to as the "Seven-Year Itch."

When Jennifer Nagy questioned whether the Seven-Year Itch is fact or fiction, she determined that "there is no magic number. The studies do seem to agree that couples need to put in the extra effort every day in order to sustain happy marriages. If a couple doesn't prioritize their relationship, their marriage will fall by the wayside -- no matter how long they've been together."
