News:
He announced on January 19, 2004, that in order to remain in Japan with his wife and children, he would forfeit $9,500,000. He stated that his children's feelings and being able to spend time with his family while he played baseball were more important than money.

"I am who I am because of my family. Knowing that a baseball career doesn't last too long for anyone, I wasn't so sure it was the right thing to do to give up seeing my children grow. I'm a father and I simply want to be able to think what's best for my own kids. They asked me to stay in Japan, and that was enough."
Rumors:
In May, 2002, it was rumored by Japan Today that the Sasaki's marriage was in trouble over Kazuhiro's womanizing. His mother-in-law said it was all a misunderstanding. Disagreement over where their children should be educated also created problems in their marriage.
