By Sheri & Bob Stritof, About.com

No matter how much you love one another, if you allow your marriage to fall into a rut or if you take one another for granted, your marriage could be at risk for one of you having an affair.

Here are steps you can take to affair-proof your marriage.

  • Plan dates with one another.

  • Have fun together.

  • Rekindle your intimacy. Spice up your sex life.

  • Know yourselves individually. Know who you are and what you each want from life.

  • Live a balanced life together.

  • Accept responsibility for being happy and for your own feelings.

  • Know how to deal with conflict and don't let things build up or fester.

  • Support one another's dreams and help each other to be fulfilled.

  • Communicate. Talk things out.

  • Know and share your values with one another.

  • If feeling tempted to have an affair, try and figure out why. Discuss it with your spouse.

  • Consider getting a postnuptial agreement that outlines the consequences of either one of you cheating.

  • Reflect on your commitment to one another and remember why you fell in love.
