Definition: Mariage by proxy is a wedding where someone stands in for either the bride or groom at a wedding.

A double proxy marriage is where neither the bride or groom is present.

General Information on Proxy Marriages

Colorado: One of you will need to be present for a proxy marriage in Colorado. I recommend that you contact the County Clerk of the county where you would like to be married.

If one of you live in a different country, there could be immigration complications or your home countries may not accept the marriage as legal. We encourage you to talk to an immigration attorney in your own locale.

Bottom line: Proxy marriages are complicated. If you think a locale will allow proxy marriages, we recommend that you contact the county clerk where you want to get married to see what they will or won't accept as far as their required documentation regarding proxy marriages.
