Sorry to hear that your RV experiences were so trying. We have had great experiences (with and without the kids). You can read about them, as well as our advice for those seeking romantic RV adventures, on our website: http://www.romantictravelclub.com/rvrentals.htm

It doesn't sound to me like you tried the rv lifestyle before buying your rv. We too have had some harrowing experiences but we have also
travelled to many places and seen some incredible sights that we would
probably not have without rving. I used to be real uptight and
stressed when traveling and didn't really have a good time. Once I
learned to take each day at a time and not try to keep to a schedule I
enjoyed myself much more. We can experience disasters at home in normal
everyday life and not let it ruin our lifes and should also be able to do so rving. An rv is no different then a home, it needs to be taken care of and while some things are almost the same in both, others need to be taken care of differently. I hope you decide to give rving another chance but before you do you should sit down with whomever you will be travelling with and discuss/write down what each of you expects from the venture and each other, make a check list of things that need to be done to rv before departure and remember when traveling with an rv you should always do daily walk thru and around checks.

Hi: We started doing some traveling this summer. We bought a 24" Komfort Travel Trailer. We have learned alot. Had one extreme experience. I got up to use the rest room in the morning. We were on full hook ups. I flushed and went out. Suddenly I heard a scream. Where is this water coming from? The toilet had lost a piece on the valve and it didn't shut off. I ran outside and shut the water off which stopped it. We were to be out for another three days. I put a screwdriver at the base of the toilet to keep the door in it open so the water would flow. We used our own water and the water pump. It
was a good thing we had sewer hook-ups. We really love camping and are
thinking of getting a large 5th wheel. Thank You for your interesting
letters.

Sorry for your bad luck. After buying our RV in the fall of 2002, we
decided to go from our little city in the Canadian west to visit our
eldest daughter and her family in Montana in early November. It was a
beautiful Indian summer until Friday night half an hour after we hit
the hiway. It turned into a blizzard and we were smack dab in the
middle of "Hell in *******". We motored on at reduced speed until an
hour into our journey, after two detours to avoid traffic in the ditches caused by the rain on the road, we hit a patch of ice and headed straight for the ditch. I almost had us out but couldn't quite get the truck to crest the hiway. There we sat after some quick thinking passerbys let us use their cell phone to contact the local towing company. The dispatcher said the truck would be about 45 minutes. Three hours later, a passing police cruiser pulled over and came down to find out that contrary to what the dispatcher had told him, we were still in the ditch. An hour later the tow truck arrived and spent another hour trying to unsuccessfully pull us out. He called for back-up, another half hour and we were finally on our way. Yes we continued on our trip because..... thats what you do when you promise your grand-children you will be there. Cost to repair the truck & trailer - $12,000.00 CDN Was it worth it - YES,YES,YES. My wife and I both LOVE RV'ing and hey whats a little set back now and then. We enjoy our time together and can't wait until we are both retired and travelling the continent.

This camping story sounds to me just a story. In one paragraph Sheri says they opened the door when they stopped for lunch and found everything from the frig and clothes closet all over the floor. I assume they were towing a trailer and the next paragraph she talks about towing a car! Sorry, but the story doesn't ring true so I think it is just a story. I've been camping for 30 plus years.
Response from Sheri: Mea Culpa. It is a true story. I rewrote it
to make it clearer. The kids and I were napping, Bob didn't notice the
mess while he was driving. When we pulled into the rest area for lunch,
I jumped out of the RV to stretch my legs and came back to open the back door on the RV and saw the mess which Bob and the kids were considering how to clean up.
