Age of Majority

By Sheri & Bob Stritof, About.com

Definition: The age of majority is the age at which an individual is considered an adult and responsible for your actions in the legal sense.

Reaching the age of majority doesn't necessarily mean you can drink alcohol, vote, gamble, etc.

The age of majority varies from state to state in the United States, and in other countries. Most locales place the age of majority at 18 or 19.
