CARA Study
Catholic Engaged Encounter Renewal Project
This past weekend we attended a meeting in Buena Park, CA, that was presented by Bryan Froehle, Ph.D. of the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate, CARA, at Georgetown University.
The purpose of the meeting was to learn the results of the study they did on Catholic Engaged Encounter. Today, the Office of Communications at Georgetown University gave us permission to reprint their news release of March 13, 1998.
If you are involved in the Engaged Encounter ministry, please make sure that you read the study or the Project Report as soon as you can.
Make it a priority! It is that important!
There are many ways that local communities can implement some of the recommendations that the study suggests. We're not talking about changes to the outline or the structure of the weekend.
We are talking about small, "do-able" items such as:
Encouraging couples getting together and sharing some of their experiences during the free, unscheduled portions of the weekend.
Providing workshops on speaking techniques, and issues that young couples are facing today such as cohabitation, drug and alcohol abuse, inter-faith marriages, second marriages, and family of origin conflicts.
Providing a booklet with the schedule of the weekend and all the handouts at the beginning of the weekend.
Being more sensitive to adult learning styles in our presentations.
Updating any music used on the weekend.
