Testosterone Triggered Titles

Sexist Advice?

By Sheri & Bob Stritof, About.com

What's with all the recent testosterone triggered titled books about helping women get married?

Even the titles are insulting, annoying, and demeaning to women.

  • Marriage as a deal? Should people view their marriage as a business deal?

"Closing the Deal: Two Married Guys Take You from Single Miss to Wedded Bliss" by Daniel Rosenberg and Richard Kirshenbaum Compare Prices

  • Not that into you? Why bother with him then?

"He's Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys" by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo Compare Prices

  • Land you a husband? Since when is getting married a sport?

"Why Men Marry Some Women and Not Others: The Fascinating Research That Can Land You the Husband of Your Dreams" by John T. Molloy Compare Prices

  • Catching a man? This title actually demeans men, too.

"Men Are Like Fish: What Every Woman Needs to Know About Catching a Man" by Steve Nakamoto Compare Prices

Encouraging Game Playing and Manipulation?

These books encourage playing games and being manipulative. The authors also imply that the married state is the only way a woman can have a "complete" life.

Those attitudes and behaviors do not encourage healthy relationships.

Open and Honest Communication is Needed

What is needed during all stages of a marriage relationship, including the pre-engagement stage, is for a couple to have open and honest communication regarding their expectations and feelings.

Otherwise they are just playing games.
