Settling In

By Sheri & Bob Stritof, About.com

Definition: For some, when a couple settles in their marriage, they quit caring about the success of their marriage. For these folks settling in means that the good times are over and disillusionment is the only way to be married.

For others, settling in is a natural aspect of being married. It's natural to experience a let down after the rush and excitement of your wedding and honeymoon. The real world, with all its stress and schedules and things to do, can have a negative impact on your marriage relationship.

What is important at this stage of your marriage is to know how to handle a sense of settling in so that your marriage doesn't end up in a rut and in trouble.

It is okay to argue as long as you fight fairly. It is okay to be different and like different things as long as you communicate with one another.

Also Known As: Disillusionment, honeymoon blues
