Wedding Info:After postponing their wedding three times, Pierce and Keely were married on August 4, 2001 in Ireland. Their reasons to postpone the ceremony included schedule conflicts with Pierce's career, son Sean's serious injuries from a car accident, and Keely's second pregnancy.
Wedding Location: Ballintubber Abbey, a 13th-century stone Catholic church in County Mayo. The church aisle was decorated with 10-foot-tall flowered candelabras. The church glowed from the light of hundreds of candles. The church was reportedly used in the filming of The Quiet Man.
Wedding Ceremony: Wedding guests were greeted by two bagpipers. The Catholic ceremony was officiated by Msgr. John Fleming. One of the readers at mass was Rod Steiger. Pierce and Keely exchanged platinum wedding bands and lit a unity candle. Keely's wedding band has three carats of princess-cut diamonds. Bron Roylance was best man and the flower girl was Pierce's granddaughter Isabella.
Wedding Attire: Keely's wedding dress was a Richard Tyler silk dress with a lace coat covered in pearls. She carried a lilies of the valley bridal bouquet and wore an antique diamond-and-pearl tiara. Pierce wore full tails designed by Gianni Campagna. For the reception, Keely changed into a strapless satin gown that was also designed by Richard Tyler.
Wedding Reception: Held at the 13th-century Ashford Castle, an 84-room castle on 450 acres, the facility was decorated with hundreds of roses, stephanotis, gardenias, lilies of the valley, delphinium, and greenery. The tables were decorated with white and pink rose petals and floating candles.
While Keely arranged to have an ice sculpture of Rodin's The Kiss at the reception, Pierce arranged a fireworks display. Guests were treated to a dinner of grilled lobster, asparagus spears, mashed Irish potatoes, and champagne. The six-tier carrot wedding cake was created after viewing photos of Jack and Jaqueline Kennedy's wedding cake.
First Dance: Bruce Springsteen song, "If I Should Fall Behind." There was much music and dancing at the reception.
Wedding Gifts to One Another: Pierce gave Keely a diamond barrette from the Victorian-era. Keely gave Pierce 1920s mother-of-pearl cuff links and studs.
Honeymoon: After touring Ireland, Keely and Pierce cruised to the Exuma Islands in the Bahamas on a chartered yacht.
