Diane was an actress and she met Sean during the BBC production of "Anna Christie." Diane's December 6, 1962 marriage to Sean on Gibraltar was her second marriage.

Sean and Diane divorced on September 6, 1973. Diane has a daughter from her first marriage to writer Andrew Volpe. Sean and Diane had one son. Diane married writer Anthony Shaffer in 1985. Anthony and Diane's marriage lasted until his death in 2001. Diane lives in Australia, is a published author, and owned Karnak Playhouse, an open-air theater.
