Chelsea and Marc met when they were teens. Both attended Stanford University, although they didn't start dating until years later. Chelsea announced their engagement on Thanksgiving Day 2009.

The formal wedding rehearsal dinner was held on July 30, 2010 at the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck, New York. Chelsea and Marc were married in an outdoor interfaith ceremony under a chuppah at Astor Courts in Rhinebeck on July 31, 2010. The wedding ceremony included the signing of the ketubah. Guests at the wedding and reception included family, and close friends such as Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Madeleine Albright, and Steven Bing.
Interfaith Wedding Ceremony: "The New York Times reported that the ceremony was conducted by Rabbi James Ponet, a Jewish chaplain at Yale University, and the Rev. William Shillady, executive director of the United Methodist City Society, and included friends and family reading the Seven Blessings, often recited at Jewish weddings after the vows and exchange of rings. The couple read a poem by Leo Marks titled "The Life That I Have," according to the family."
