Her Choice
Her Choice

By Sheri & Bob Stritof, About.com

K.'s daughter has chosen a young man who is not liked by her family.

Question

My daugter's fiance is not really the one we would have picked out for her. He's one of those guys that makes her real happy but he can't branch out and treat the rest of the family like he cares a whole lot about us.

They lived with us for 6 months and he never said thanks or helped around the house. My younger daughter and son think he's a real jerk and hate the fact that sis is marrying him.

He's 28 years old; very independent and when we try to offer help or take things over to their house he has a fit. It's like "stay out of my space." They live together.

She's as happy as a clam and he loves her more than life itself but I'm concerned because family is very important to her and he seems to be able to take it or leave it. He's one of those very clueless people.

I realize this is her choice and not ours, but should I ever point out to her what the future might be with a guy like that?
