Mississippi Minors Marriage Question

Mississippi Minors Marriage Question

By Sheri & Bob Stritof, About.com

The state law of Mississippi regarding marriage and minors is confusing to R. and to K.

Question

Two questions on this topic:

From K: Hi. Ok my, boyfriend is going to be 17 soon and i am 18 ...and if he is 17 does that mean we can marry in Mississippi without his parents consenting and they cant stop us?

From R: The wording of the Under 21 section is confusing to me. At first is sounds like if you're under 21, you need parental permission, no ifs ands or buts.

However, you mention that if you're a male under 17 or a female under 15, you need parental permission as well.

Which age do you need parental permission at? Is it possible for somebody over the age of 17, but under the age of 21 to get married without parental permission? Thank you for you time. Read Sheri and Bob's answer
