Mother Problem

Mother Problem

By Sheri & Bob Stritof, About.com

W. wonders how to handle the problem of her husband not being willing to deal with her mother's instability.

Question

My marriage is under stress due to my mother. Mainly it's my mother, but there are elements involving my father as well as my older brother who still resides with my parents and has not yet "found his way" so to speak.

Anyhow, without going into numerous details, my husband can no longer deal with the personality of my mother, whom I agree is unpredictable and just not normal.

However, having grown up with her I've learned to deal with it. My husband, who has never encountered anyone like her, simply has had enough.

This has now escalated to a point where my husband refuses to see them or acknowledge them; which puts me in a very difficult position, both being in love with my husband and loving my parents.

I do not know how to handle this situation and am asking for some insight. Thanks.
