No Ring

No Ring

After six years, M. gave her boyfriend an ultimatum to give her an engagement ring. She is now having doubts about this decision.

Question

I have been in a my relationship with my boyfriend for six years. When I moved out of my parents house two years into the relationship he helped me get an apartment and when I lost my job he paid all the bills until I got back on my feet with a full time job.

We have been living together for about three years now and I have gotten to the point were I feel it is time to go to the next step. When ever I talk to him about marriage he says it is only paper.

His mom and dad are divorced and also his uncle had one too. I feel that by him seeing this he has a bad view on marriage.

He wants to buy a house together but I do not want to buy a house with him without being married. I gave him until November of this year to get me a ring and he said I will get one before then.

On the other hand I feel as if I have pushed him into something he dosen't want to do just to make me happy. It seems as if he will not love me as much anymore by me making him do this. I don't think it is right for him to keep me from my wants.

I don't know what to do. I love him with all my heart and soul and I know he loves me to but I grow up in the church and I know living together unmarried is wrong but I don't want to let him go.

I need some help on how should I address the issue on coming to a agreement that will make us both happy?
