By , About.com Guides

Inter-Christian Marriages

  • The wedding needs to take place in an Orthodox Church.

  • The non-Orthodox Christian partner needs to have been baptized in water and in a Christian church.

  • The couple needs to agree to try and raise their children in the Orthodox church.

    Interreligious Marriages

Orthodox Christians are encouraged to not enter into an interreligious marriage. If such a decision is made, the following positions are taken:
  • The Orthodox Christian partner will not be allowed to get married in the Orthodox Church.

  • The Orthodox Christian partner will lose his/her sacramental privileges.
