The marriage of Charles and Camilla appears to be a story of the triumph of first love. Covering 3 decades, here is a timeline of their relationship.

  • 2000, June 3: The relationship of Charles and Camilla is recognized by the Queen when she attends a birthday lunch for King Constantine with Camilla present.

  • 2001, June 21: Charles and Camilla have their first public kiss at the NOS 15th Birthday party.

  • 2002, November 14: Charles and Camilla arrive together at a private celebration of the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

  • 2005, February 10: Charles and Camilla's engagement is announced by Clarence House.

  • 2005, February 21: The location of the wedding is changed since the law requires that members of the public would be able to use Windsor Castle as a venue for marriages if Charles and Camilla applied for permission to be married there. Concerns for security at the Guildhall location have been expressed.

  • 2005, February 22: A palace spokesman stated, "The queen will not be attending the civil ceremony because she is aware that the prince and Mrs. Parker Bowles wanted to keep the occasion low key. The queen and the rest of the royal family will, of course, be going to the service of dedication at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle." A spokesperson has emphasized that this is not a snub.

  • 2005, February 24: Concerns about the legality of Prince Charles' wedding to Camilla Parker Bowles were set aside when Lord Falconer, the Lord Chancellor, head of the judiciary, made a rare public ruling stating that the 1949 Marriages Act did not retain a previous ban on royal civil marriage.

  • 2005, March 6: The Registry offices in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, and in Chippenham, have reportedly received nine formal objections (caveats) to the marriage of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. The validity of the objections will be decided by the Registrar General. If any of the objections are upheld, Prince Charles would have to go to court to overturn the objection and have a certificate of marriage issued.

  • 2005, March 9: Objections to the marriage of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles were dismissed by Len Cook, Registrar General for England and Wales.

  • 2005, March 21: It has been confirmed by the Constitutional Affairs Minister Christopher Leslie that when the Prince of Wales becomes King, Camilla Parker Bowles would automatically become Queen. In order for Camilla to not become queen, British law would have to be changed. Leslie has stated that the future marriage was not a "morganatic" marriage. Read more.

  • 2005, April 4: Due to the funeral of Pope John Paul II on April 8, 2005, the Prince and Camilla have postponed their wedding so that Prince Charles could represent his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at the funeral. Their wedding will be on April 9, 2005.

  • 2005, April 8: During the blessing ceremony of their wedding by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles will say an act of penitence from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. They will also renew their civil vows. Read the text of the Act of Penitence
