Quotes About Evert-Mill Marriage:

Chris about her marriage: "Andy and I have been married fifteen years, and I said to him just the other day that I feel closer to him now than ever. I mean, it's different. It's not the goose bumps-passion-fireworks kind of thing. It's more like knowing he's a keeper. And I just know that I'm going to grow old with him."

Andy about compromise in their marriage: "One of the things I said to Chrissie was, 'Chrissie, I will love you and give you all of me for the rest of my life. But you have to allow me to be me.'" Andy about their finances: "We live out of two separate checkbooks. I have to hold up my end of the equation. If I want to do something like I've done in the past -- I've bought fancy Ferraris and Porsches and toys -- I don't go to my wife's checkbook and write out a check for $130,000. There's a lot of pride in what I do. I don't think Chrissie would love and respect me as she does if I had to count on her to support me."

About Andy Mill: "Mill seems to have the perfect blend of machismo and tenderness, unpretentiousness and irreverence, that Evert needs in a partner. Family is extremely important to him as well ... Yet he is also the sort of man who cried at their wedding, cries at sappy movies."

Chris about her engagement to Jimmy Connors: “If I were to pick a first love, he would definitely be my pick,” Evert says of Connors, even 25 years later, “because a little bit of that influence (of your first love) stays with you throughout your life. We’re still good friends.”

Chris about her divorce from John Lloyd: “Absence does not necessarily make the heart grow fonder,” she would say, while acknowledging that all the responsibility for the divorce was on her shoulders. Like with Jimmy Connors before him, Chris had ultimately chosen tennis as her first passion, and said flatly, “John was perfect. The relationship suffered because I didn’t have enough left (after tennis) to give. That’s when we grew apart.”
