Sentimental Squirrels

Friday August 29, 2008
According to a survey of online participants conducted in May 2008 by Kijiji.com, "more than eight in ten couples (81%) view unused items lying around the house as a source of tension in their relationships." Kijiji.com, which is a free local classifieds web site, recommends ending this type of conflict in your marriage by making the decision to de-clutter.

It would be impossible to tell Bob to forget about his big blue beer mug from a party over 50 years ago or to forget about his monkey statue that I for some unknown reason gave him on our first Christmas together.

We are working together to de-clutter our home, but we accept that some items will just be around forever!

(1) Sally says:

This is definitely the case, especially when one partner ends up moving the items to clean at least once or twice a week. Personal space in a marriage is a big item, and men ordinarily require more of it, yet do less housework and maintenance of the items involved.

One of the great myths about gender is that women are the spendthrifts in the marriage relationship. I remember being rather shocked years ago when a survey revealed how much more expensive it is to raise a boy than a girl, and the difference doesn’t end with the wedding bells. Men are much worse at handling money than women, and much poorer savers.

Take care, ladies!
