4/17/2006: The divorce of Eddie and Nicole Murphy was finalized.

8/05/2005: After separating from Eddie in July, 2005, citing irreconcilable differences, Nicole Mitchell Murphy filed for divorce on August 5, 2005. She sought spousal support and joint custody of their five children.


Edward Regan Murphy: April 3, 1961 in Brooklyn, New York. He was raised in the Bushwick projects of Brooklyn.

Nicole Mitchell: January 5, 1968. She is from the Greenhaven/Pocket area near Sacramento, California.

How Eddie and Nicole Met:

Eddie and Nicole met in 1988 at an NAACP Image Awards show. They lived together for a year and a half before they wed.

Wedding Date:

Eddie and Nicole were married on March 18, 1993 at the Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel in New York City.

Wedding Attire:

Nicole's white silk and satin, low-cut and off-the-shoulder wedding dress featured French Alençon lace and rosettes. The cathedral train was 12 feet long. Her cathedral tulle veil was edged in Belgian embroidery and decorated with Austrian crystals and pearls.

The bridesmaids wore coral dresses.

Wedding Ceremony:

Nicole walked down the aisle to the song, "Don't Give Up on Love", which Eddie had performed on his "Love's Alright" album.

The nondenominational, double-ring, 16 minute ceremony was performed by Rev. Calvin Butts of Harlem's Abyssinian Baptist Church.

When the minister asked if anyone knew why the two shouldn't be married, Murphy turned around and glared at the wedding guests, causing much laughter.

Eddie, Nicole, and Bria left the ceremony to Whitney Houston's "I'm Every Woman."

The flower girl was their daughter Bria. Nicole's stepsister, Wilma Worrell, was the matron of honor.

Best man was Vernon Lynch, Eddie's stepfather. Murphy's brothers, Charlie Murphy and Vernon Lynch, Jr., and his cousin Ray Murphy, Jr., were his groomsmen.

Wedding Reception:

They had approximately 500 guests at their wedding reception at the Grand Ballroom decorated with white satin, pink rose trees, orchids, lilacs, gardenias, and tulips. The flowers were delivered to a hospital in Harlem after the wedding reception.

The sit-down dinner served included jumbo shrimp with cocktail sauce, Russian blinis crepe, Chicken Nicole with cognac sauce, wreath of lobster with sliced turnips and red bell pepper, California asparagus, squash and mashed potatoes, and Cristal champagne.

Eddie and Nicole danced their first dance as husband and wife to "Cuteness" which is a song Eddie wrote for Nicole.

Wedding guests included Bruce Willis, Quincy Jones, Charles S. Dutton, Bill Murray, Sugar Way Leonard, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Nastassja Kinski, Marla Maples, Karyn White, Terry Lewis, Johnny Gill, Wayne Newton, Robert Townsend, David Alan Grier, Richard Lawson, Kadeem Harison, Heavy D., Russell Simmons, Chris Rock, Daryl Bell, Gilbert Gottfried, Treach of Naughty by Nature, Arsenio Hall, Prince, Demi Moore, and Queen Latifah.

Asking for no wedding gifts, Eddie and Nicole requested that money be sent to his Yeah! foundation for the terminally ill.


Eddie and Nicole went to a private island in the Caribbean for their one-week honeymoon.

First Anniversary:

Nicole and Eddie celebrated their first anniversary in Montego Bay, Jamaica where they stayed for one week.

  • Angel Iris Murphy Brown, born in 2007. Her mother is "Scary Spice" Melanie Brown. Eddie's paternity allegedly proved via DNA test. In February 2007, Eddie was ordered to pay $51,000 a month in child support.

Nicole: Model since she was ten years old.


Eddie and Nicole financially supported the AIDS Foundation, various cancer charities, the Screen Actors' Guild's strike relief fund, the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center for Nonviolent Social Change, and Yeah!


Eddie and Nicole had a multi-million dollar colonial mansion in Englewood, New Jersey. Called Bubble Hill, it reportedly had an indoor racquetball court, a swimming pool, recording studio, screening room, and a bowling alley.
