St. Peter and St. Siricius

St. Peter, Apostle

Birthdate:

Born Simon Peter or Cephas c.4 BC in Bethsaida near the Sea of Galilee.

Death:

64 A.D., martyred, Peter is believed to have been crucified upside down in an act of humility.

Occupation:

Fisherman.

Marriage:

According to Clement of Alexandria (Stromata, III, vi, ed. Dindorf, II, 276), Simon was married and had children. Traditionally, it is believed that Peter's wife suffered martyrdom. A reference in the Bible to Peter's marriage is Mark 1:29-31.

Children:

Legendary daughter is Petronilla.

St. Siricius

Birthdate:

Siricius was born c.334 in Rome, Italy.

Death:

He died on November 26, 399.

Background:

Italian from Rome.

Occupation:

Lector, Deacon.

Marriage:

The tradition is that Pope Siricius left his wife and children in order to become pope.

Children:

Number of Siricius' children is unknown.

Selected 38th Pope:

December 17, 384.

Feast Day:

November 26.

Notes:

Siricius wrote a decree to Bishop Himerius of Tarragona on February 11, 385, stating that priests should stop cohabiting with their wives.
